Where are the Virgin Islands?
Located in the Caribbean region the Virgin islands lie east of Puerto Rico between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands are mostly volcanic and have hilly rugged terrain. They boast a tropical climate moderated by trade winds.
The islands are in close proximity to each other and make up 3 distinct cruising areas: BVI (British Virgin Islands): including their most common islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost van Dyke, Anegada; US Virgin Islands: including St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix; and the more secluded Spanish Virgin Islands of Culebra and Vieques just off the east cost of Puerto Rico.
The virgin Islands have the best natural resources available: sun, sand, surf, sea. They are blessed with steady trade winds, tame currents, calm waters and hundreds of well protected bays. The Virgin Islands are a sailors' paradise.
